[English]
Purpose: The purpose of this research is to optimize and improve the protective quality of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) polymer against micro-organisms by using titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles.
Method/Research Design: The empirical (experimental) method is used and data gathering is done using both library resources and laboratory methods. The experiments carried out in this project consist of an accelerated biological aging process on glue samples under light and dark conditions and testing their adhesion resistance. Also, some experiments have been performed after applying glue samples on paper; these include tensile strengths of paper samples, measuring the pH, colorimetric and FT-IR analysis.
Findings: The results of biological aging experiments indicates that TiO2 nanoparticles are capable of slowing down the growth and spread of microorganisms on the carboxymethyl cellulose glue, but this happens only in the presence of visible light and the result is not significant in darkness. The results of other experiments carried out on optimized adhesives and papers covered with them show that adding titanium dioxide will not have considerable impact on the structure and properties of carboxymethyl cellulose and paper. Also, the colorimetric experiment results suggest that titanium dioxide can prevent glue sample colors from changing (becoming yellowish) and it will have a positive impact in controlling the process.
