In the past, territorial claims over Arvand-Rood were one of the most controversial and most important issues disputed between Iran and Iraq. This article tries to briefly review the rights of Iran in Arvand-Rood according to international laws and existing records. Therefore, the records and other resources, principles, regulations and conventions of international laws relating to Arvand-Rood are studied. Furthermore, the history of the naming of Arvand-Rood has been briefly reviewed and its legal system through history has been studied, followed by an analysis of the 1975 Algiers Accord. Finally, it is concluded that, after 33 years, according to the 1975 Algiers Agreement of International Boundaries and Good Neighborliness, the legal system of Arvand-Rood is still valid. It is reasoned that in this treaty all the aspects were evaluated and foresaw. This treaty is in fact a supplementary to the agreement on specifying a river as the border between Iran and Iraq in order to end the disputes between the two countries about the bordering rivers.
