The Application of Metadata Elements in Organizing Museum Carpets

Abstract

Abstract
Purpose: Carpets as museum objects can be studied for different artistic, historical, cultural, social and other purposes. The present paper studies the metadata standards elements for organizing museum carpets.
Method/Research Design: Data was gathered through content analysis of metadata standards elements.
Findings: Among 818 elements related to 9 metadata standards, 250 elements are applied in museum carpets' organization. These elements were organized under two main groups - descriptive and management - and 31 secondary groups.
Conclusion: Findings help in unification and facilitation in organizing and authorizing museum carpet information, as well as precise information retrieval for management and research purposes.
