Abstract

Ancient Iranian civilization has provided the world with unique artefacts. With the advent of western explorers, in the 19th century these artifacts were systematically discovered and reached Europrsn markets.  At the same time, illicit explorations and making counterfeit items became common. A number of Jewish Iranians became engaged in the business of discovery and sale of antiquities. Their involvement had both positive and negative consequences. Such consequences are reported in the present study
Method and Research Design: Archivial records as well as library resources were studied to collect data.
Findings and Conclusion: Plenty of archeological intems were taken to abroad. European dealers employed locals to buy antiques kept in people’s homes. The lucrative business attracted many Iranians including Jews illegal excavation and sale of items.
