Abstract

Purpose: This paper discusses the starting date of the archives (i.e. preserving valuable records) in Iran. In addition, it reviews previous research to show  evidence of presering documents in ancient Iran from the citation, historical, documentary, and historical linguistics points of view, not been covered in previous studies.
Method and Research Design: Library resources were consulted to collect data. Persian sources are compiled, categorized and critically examined.
Finding and Conclusions: Most of the Persian literture reviewed consider the Achaemenids as the beginning of formation of archives in Iran, by relying of the book of Ezra and accepting the views of Jahangir Ghaemmaghami.
