Abstract

Purpose: This paper has carefully examined the ways social media contents are managed in high ranking universities around the world, in order to propose an appropriate model for Iranian universities.
Methods and Research Design: Data about social media records management policy of seven universities was collected by reviewing the websites of 100 top world universities from the Times 2020 list and categorized using Maxqda software. The categories, then were put in a checklist and circulated among 13 members of a Delphi panel consisting of academics with rich experience in the area of social media records management. We calculated the average of the answers given by the panel members to the both rounds and compared them. Friedman Test was carried out to determine rankings of the components in the proposed model.
Findings and Conclusion: Target components, scope and records availability are present in all policies. Also in the first round of Delphi 80% and in the second 60% of the components had a mean above 9. Only the cookies component had a mean below 8. Regarding the rankings of the components, according to experts in the Friedman test, security, had the highest rating. Again, the use of cookies had the lowest rating. All the components examined were regarded to be significant the experts, however, the degree of significance assigned was not the same. The policy pattern was proposed, contained two groups of mandatory and optional components. We also added a few recommendations for the application of our model.
