Abstract

Purpose: To identify the types and causes of spots and stains on the pages of a manuscript of Shahnameh held in Sa'd Abad Palace Museum in Tehran.
Method/ Research Design: Data was collected and analyzed by lab equipment.
Findings: FTIR-ATR spectroscopy confirmed fungus stains. Also, micro- XRF identified the elements iron and copper. Both characteristics are foxing spots. The sizing starch and tannic can be responsible.
