A Study on the Extent to Which the Abstracts of the Ganjine-ye Asnad Quarterly Meet the ISO 214 Abstracting Standard

Abstract

This research aims to study the extent to w hich the ISO 214 standard is employed in writing the abstracts of the Ganjineh Asnad quarterly. A survey of 54 abstracts show's that 44.5 percent of the abstracts were indicative, 33.33 percent were indicative-informative and only 22.22 percent were informative. Furthermore, the ISO 214 standard has been observed in the informative abstracts more than the indicative abstracts. The research also shows that 83.3 percent of the abstracts of articles in the area of archival studies are in conformity with the ISO 214 standard, while this amount is 64.3 percent in abstracts of historical research articles. The extent to which the ISO 214 standard was observed in all the studied abstracts was 68.51 percent. Finally, the importance of accurate abstracts is emphasized and it is suggested to follow the ISO 214 standard in writing the abstracts.
