The Moharram Mourning Ceremonies in Borujerd

Abstract

Abdol-Mohammad Ayati was bom in Borujerd in 1926 and began his education in the same city. Later on he traveled to Qom to continue his education in the Feizie School of Islamic studies. After studying in Qom he went to Tehran and pursued his studies in the Faculty of Traditional and Theoretical Studies of the University of Tehran which later changed to the Faculty of Theology and Islamic Studies. In Tehran, Ayati studied under renowned instmctors such as Fazel Tooni, Elahi Qomshei, Badi’ozzaman Foruzanfar, Gholam-Hossein Seddiqi and Mohammad-Ali Hakim Shirazi. Abdol Mohammad Ayati is a well known author ami the books he either wrote or translated run to forty volumes, among which the translation of the holy Quran, Nahjolbalaghe and Sahife Sajadie can be mentioned. The seventh interview of Iran’s National Archives oral history group with Ayati was conducted in Moharram; he therefore decided to speak about his memories of the religious ceremonies of Moharram held in Borujerd during his childhood and youth.
