The victory of the Constitutional Revolution which caused far-reaching political, social and cultural changes, along with events such as the First World War, occupation of Iran and the coup d’etat of February 21, 1921, provoked reactions from Eshghi. He criticized the conditions of his society via poems, screenplays, and other writings. Such social activities and especially publishing the Gharn-e Bistom (Twentieth Century) newspaper was not welcomed by Reza Shah and led to the political persecution and assassination of Eshghi.
