Pondering on three superior features of the historical Sokatiye School

Abstract

This article is a summary of a research project aiming to review the grounds for the development of modern education in Iran. It also explores the procedure of instituting Darolfonoon and some other schools of that era and briefly introduces Birjand’s Shokatieh School. Afterwards, it explains the three superior and unique features of this historical school that has given it an independent and long-lasting identity: being free of charge, having great teachers, and paying attention to the education of girls. It finally concludes that the Shokatieh school of Birjand, in comparison with other schools out of Tehran, had outstanding and somehow unique features.
