A Study on the Extent to which the Journalists of Kayhan Institute Use Its Archive

Abstract

This research aims to determine the extent to which the journalists of Kayhan Institute use its archive and to study the strengths and weaknesses of this archive in providing services to the journalists. In this survey-descriptive research, questionnaires were distributed among 76 journalists working in different sections of Kayhan Institute, which is located in Tehran. The statistical analysis software programs used in this research were SPSS and Microsoft Excel The research findings show that 13.2 percent of the journalists use the archive’s computer- based search more than eight times a month while only 2.6 percent of them use the newspaper clippings at the same frequency. It is also reveals that only 17.1 percent of the journalists use the picture archive more than eight times a month. According to the study, 64.5 percent of the journalists believe that the archivists of this institute are well qualified. The findings also show that the education and experience of the journalists affects their use of the archive while their sex doesn’t. Eventually, the research hypothesis that there is a meaningful relation between the journalists’ use of the archive and the qualification of the archivists is confirmed
