Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this research is to study the flow of activities of the midwifery profession in the Health Organization during Reza Shah’s Era with an emphasis on unpublished records and documents available in the National Archives of Iran.
Methodology/Approach: In this descriptive-analytic research, records and documents available in the National Archives of Iran, and books, journals and newspapers (library resources) are reviewed. Historical data is assessed and analyzed and conclusions are made based on the organized data.
Findings: The findings of this research show that the era of Reza Shah was among the periods in which the government took several measures as a supporter of change in the status of women in society. In this era, women could apparently be active in social, economic, and even political arenas; however, they had to observe the policies of Reza Shah. Special attention was paid to the status of women’s health and hygiene in this era. This could have had a fruitful outcome when those responsible for the health of women had the required knowledge.
