A comparative study of ISAD elements with UNIMARC, IRANMARC and MARC 21 fields

Abstract

Purpose: ISAD elements are compared with the UNIMARC, IRANMARC and MARC21 fields.
Methodology: In order to compare elements of ISAD with the fields and subfields of UNIMARC and IRANMARC, a primary comparative table was used. These fields were developed in 2006 with the purpose of provisional implementation of the RASA software. Based on this table, as well as the tables by which ISAD are compared with EAD, and EAC MARC 21, ISAD elements were compared with the fields and subfields of UNIMARC and IRANMARC.
Findings: Most of the archival materials are considered in the manuals of UNIMARC and IRANMARC, and necessary Tags are designed for both.
Conclusions: It seems that archival materials have been considered as library non-book material in both applications. In the other word, in the manuals of UNIMARC and IRANMARC, archival materials are regarded separately and as one unit, i.e. the content and the hierarchical structures of series are represented.
