Abstract

Aim: this paper aims to offer a suggested plan for a handbook for describing Persian non-book resources based on a comparison of international rules and standards.
Population: the studied population includes five standards i.e. the second edition of Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR2), Resource Description and Access (RDA), IASA, FIAF cataloguing rules and the General International Standard Archival Description (ISAD(G)). The rules used in each standard were compared in eight groups of electronic, cartographic, print, three-dimensional, audio, graphic, microforms and video and projection resources in 53 different kinds of non-book resources collected in the National Library and Archives of Iran.
Methodology/Approach: this is an applied research and has been carried out with the library and comparative survey method. Checklists were used to collect data and the Friedman statistical test is used for data analysis, and a single variable t-test is used to confirm the hypothesis.
Findings: In all resource groups except for the video and projection resources group, Anglo- American rules, RDA and IASA comply with each other while the three mentioned standards and FIAF do not show any compliance in the video and projection resources group.
Conclusion: In the end, based on the findings of the research and a comparison of the standards, the proposed plan for a handbook is presented.
