Failure of Development Programs in Kurdistan Province of Iran (1949-1973)

Abstract

Purpose: To investigate social and economic development programs undertaken in Kurdistan province over the course of 25 years.
Method and Research Design: Archival documents and library materials were consulted to gather data for this study.
Finding and Conclusion: Five development did not achieve goals. By the end of the 4th development plan literacy rate in Kurdistan remained 22% in rural and 52% in urban areas. Wiith regard to medical services, access to clean water, public spaces in urban areas, roads, telecommunications, balanced development of industry and agriculture, living standards Kurdistan were poor. However, the plans caused chnge in the relation between the government and citizens. Through educational and economic programs, the regime increased its influence in rural areas and made the population more dependent.
