The need for providing library and information services for blind and partially sighted users; the activities of the National Library and Archives of I.R. Iran and its future plans

Abstract

This article aims to look at optimal information services for blind and partially sighted library users in Iran. It briefly reviews the concepts of information science, library and archive. It also explains the responsibilities and goals of libraries and archives for meeting the needs of their users and especially blind and partially sighted users. Regarding the growing population of visually impaired people around the world, it points out the role of governments and international societies in providing their social rights and rehabilitating them. Finally, it discusses the important role of the National Library and Archives of Iran in providing a proper environment for visually impaired users. It also draws attention to the need for establishment of a section for visually impaired users in the National Archives of Iran.
