With an increase in the utilization of electronic records, issues about organizing, keeping, preserving, processing and managing such records have arisen. Therefore, this article focuses on the standards for electronic records management which are one of the tools for moving from the management of traditional records to managing electronic records. Firstly, the word “standard” is introduced and the usage of standards is explained. After on, different types of standards and international standard developing organizations are introduced and the development processes for ISO standards are explained. Then “record” is defined and its importance and different types of it are discussed. Finally, electronic records management, standards for electronic records and the challenges of electronic records management are described.
